WHERE YOU GONNA RUN?
 

When you have pushed away,
all who love you,
when you have pushed away,
all who really care,
when you realize it IS time,
where you gonna run?

You think no one knows,
you say that he is REALLY good,
he's just a little mixed up,
you say it while you tremble and shake.

When the police know your address,
as well as they know their own,
they know all your kids names,
and have watched as they've grown,
they've watched you carried out,
all bloodied and broken,
they've seen how the kids cry,
they shake their heads in wonder,
how many times have they asked you why?

When nurses in ER know you by name,
even comment on your new hair cut,
they all love you and want to help,
they all reach out a hand,
you tell them you are fine,
they just don't understand.

Last week he got a new job,
even brought you flowers,
it was fine for a few days,
you laughed and joked and you hoped,
but when he was late again,
stopped for a few drinks,
you tremble as you even think,
of what is to come yet tonight.

It started off so nice,
how long has it been?
already eight years,
and when did he change?
Must be 5 years or 6,
a little at a time,
first was yelling and cursing,
telling me the fault was mine.

You tried to be patient,
and show him yet more love,
you told the children it would be ok,
and then he began to drink,
then he lost a job, and then...
the yells turned to fists,,,when ?

No one wants to come around,
he blames you when they do,
you are now isolated,
no one hears from you,
everyone asks and no one knows,
you are not allowed to talk,
you can't answer the phone,
he makes quite sure,
you are never left alone.

I reach out to you my friend,
begging you PLEASE to think,
if ANY of this is going on,
it is MUCH later than you think,
PLEASE grab the kids and get out,
I don't want your LAST THOUGHT to be,
while lying, dying someday, I SHOULD have cared about ME!!
