SHELTER FROM THE PAIN

You are the queen of my heart,
I never want you to know pain,
I'd do all I could to shelter you,
from the cold cruel world and the rain.

I want to see you smiling,
from your heart every day,
I want to hold you so close,
so safe, you would stay.

Life is not like that,
we must have courage and be brave,
we've got to get our feet wet,
and there's a limit to what we can save.

The cold hard facts surround us,
we've known them from the start,
and yet that doesn't ease at all
the crying deep within my heart.

I would like to make you happy,
each and every day,
I will bring you love and respect,
in each and every way...

Know that I care,
much more than these words can say,
and that I'll be caring,
until my last, final day...
