WHEN PUSH TURNED TO SHOVE

On the news tonight,
a story for our lives,
when push turned to shove,
and things changed in the light.

A woman needed a new kidney,
her family, though they matched ok,
they all refused to help her,
they all have their own lives to live.

She was about out of options,
the end of life seemed close and true,
she called a woman she hardly knew,
and asked her for a kidney.

The woman, to her surprise,
said she could do that favor,
though they hardly knew one another,
push came to shove, friendship was born.

The donor was white,
the other a hispanic,
it brings all life to truth,
it brings our reason so clear.

So many abuse that word "friend,"
say it and smile so nice,
when push came to shove this time,
true friendship was there.

Yet so many use and disappoint,
unable to help even in simple ways,
pretending to be such friends,
not meaning much of what they say.

Life is action, friendship is doing,
when push comes to shove,
when the chips are down, life is on the line,
the REAL friends will stand tall.
