NEARLY FIFTY YEARS

For those of us,
who were in or near our teens,
in the year 1956,
it is nearly fifty years.

Nearly fifty years,
since Elvis came into our lives,
life and music and the world,
were changed forever.

From Elvis singing Hound Dog,
the haunting Don't Be Cruel,
to Love Me Tender,
left a mark in our world.

For anyone who was lucky enough,
to see Elvis perform in the early years,
it must be a memory,
a memory to last always.

I remember the 1956 world,
I recall the reaction to Elvis,
I recall the stir that was caused,
in every element of our world.

I remember when the new songs,
were played for the first time,
and how they conquered,
the music scene.

If you have any Elvis recordings,
get them out and give a listen,
they will sound as much Elvis,
as they sounded in nearly 50 years ago.

The real Elvis of course,
was the one that burst upon our scene,
nearly fifty years ago,
the Elvis before Vegas.

When I hear the music of today,
and then I hear Elvis,
I can only stop, and wonder,
I KNOW where life is headed.

Elvis is a piece of our lives,
Elvis will be remembered,
for our youth and our dreams,
were also growing nearly fifty years ago.
