IRONY OF WHAT IS

I never thought I'd see,
time gaining on me,
nature putting me in my place,
I always thought I could,
for as I understood,
it wasn't an endless chase.

So much energy now used,
still I am refused,
access into the next door,
I always thought I knew,
that, except for a few,
what strength and truth were for.

Now to see for real,
now to really feel,
that they are not fair,
they don't pretend,
it could all just end,
and they wouldn't care.

But, to take it in stride,
go forward with pride,
still to believe in me,
to know what is right,
and to do with all my might,
for to be, is to be.

The challenge is met,
and I'm all set,
to do what must be done,
all kidding aside,
I feel stronger inside,
life will always be fun.

One day the chase stops,
and the ball drops,
to signal the end has come,
then who will know,
and who will again show,
the damage already done.

The next group will continue,
to do as they do,
never giving a thought,
to who paved the way,
or, what they had to pay,
for this much to be bought.

We go on and pretend,
the race will never end,
but there is no one to kid,
for when it rolls around,
there won't be a sound,
regardless what you may bid.

Life will continue to be unfair,
always those that don't care,
those who use and abuse,
still, when one is in need,
you must do the deed,
be a help, never refuse.

Nature will always provide,
nature will never hide,
so, don't put nature aside,
live your life with pride.
