YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS AGO
Thoughts lost beyond measure,
the final single thread is gone,
balloons lost among the clouds,
who can keep a proper score?Years and years and years ago,
there were always so many new tomorrows,
a whole lifetime still remained ahead,
who even thought of regret or sorrows?Moment by moment, day by day,
time continued to melt and move,
memories grew, time didn't slow,
now to wonder, where and how to prove.A million years gone,
or so it does seem,
memories all tangled as one,
life is but a sea of dream.Years and years and years ago,
so fresh, so young so anxious to do,
oh so many hills and roads now past,
so many chapters and encounters gone through.Things begin to creep to mind,
so many things that will never again be,
so many things never will get done,
so many places that you'll never see.Years and years and years ago,
the future seemed so forever,
too much time to even imagine,
and suddenly, so suddenly, forever became never.Could a thing ever be any different,
could a thing ever be changed,
could a thing ever be planned ahead,
could a day have been re-arranged?Years and years and years ago,
only a few candles on a cake,
the breath it took to blow them out,
now, counting each breath we take.
