EMPTY CHAIRS

Empty chairs,
round the tables this year,
we've all been affected,
both afar and near.

Empty smiles,
so many in pain,
it is Thanksgiving,
for those who remain.

Promises made,
never to be fulfilled,
bodies not yet recovered,
of the many who were killed.

So many young,
off to fight the war,
a nation on alert,
from shore to sandy shore.

Empty desks,
so many businesses in ruin,
will we ever recover,
will we know fairly soon?

Empty lives,
such a void to fill,
to think of what was,
echoes behind us still.

Sit at the tables,
sit tall and proud,
join hands together,
give our thanks aloud.

We are the ones,
who must continue the fight,
to show all the world,
we have tomorrow in sight.

Hands around the tables,
hope fills our eyes,
we will live for those empty chairs,
fulfill all of their whys.
