UNKNOWN

They look at you,
but don't see,
they hear you,
but don't listen,
they know who you are,
but don't know you.

They look at themselves,
in the mirror,
and can't relate,
to what is there.

They hear voices,
in their minds,
but can't accept,
what they refuse to hear.

Unknown,
is who they are,
unknown,
even to themselves.

Fear keeps them at bay,
so afraid of change,
frozen, in a state of mind,
unknown, they will stay.

What triggers this reaction,
what makes them this way,
letting time and life tick by,
throwing hope and dreams away.

Stuck in a rut,
stuck by their own choice,
wishing and praying always,
ignoring their own voice.

Life is so easy,
why some make it so hard,
they turn life into a job,
like digging in the yard.

So afraid to deal with feelings,
with what is inside their own minds,
busily running and pretending,
that all in their world is just fine.

So much harm is done,
so much is thrown away,
they take to drinking or worse,
become abusive, making others pay.

Unknown,
how many are in this space,
unknown,
lost, gone without a trace.

It is all too common to get in line,
with those who hope, wish and pray,
isn't it much easier to accept responsibility,
and let that control begin today?

While they wait in that line,
to answers from the outside,
all along, all they need,
though unknown, it is all inside.
