THE POWER OF YOUR MIND
 

I see them everyday......
trying to show they're strong....
pretending they are happy,,,,
without a care in the world.

That is in public,,,
when people are around...
someone to impress,,,
got the world in their grasp.

They tell jokes and party...
they laugh and pretend..
numb their senses with a drink...
and ALMOST begin to believe...

a gnawing feeling inside ,,,
reminds them of what is true...
tonight in the quiet and alone...
they will feel lost and blue...

people think they MUST...
feel guilty and hurt...
they think it is SUPPOSED to ...
be a PAIN to be alive....

they struggle from within...
with depression and unrest...
never trusting another....
but EXPECTING to be trusted themself!!

They lie and cheat and steal...
thinking no one knows...
sure that everyone expects that.

After all...dog eat dog is the rule..

so many lonely souls,,,
crying in their beer..
and crying alone in the night..
when they come face to face....

trying to hurt another,,,,
to keep from being hurt...
trying to win at something..
that is their own doing...

they never know,,or so they say..
that the game they play is THEM..
the power is within their mind...
to find the REAL person within...

never trusting anyone....
most of all themself...
never believing anyone...
as they deceive their SELF...

days and weeks will fly by...
as they age they slow down..
one day ....all of a sudden..
they STOP,,,and wonder...and cry...

lives gone by,,,bridges all burned..
they sit and think of what they have learned..
a sudden shock as they know...
all the pain they had to outgrow...

and only now does it show,,,
that there is nowhere left to go.
a life full of fun and greed...
all the dreams dead and gone....

many broken hearts along the way,,,
now the same old song....
they used to sing when they were young,,,
and had youth and strength and fun...
and now they are alone.
