TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET
 

Without love,
that you've thrown away,
that you ran from in fear,
that you destroyed,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

Without friends,
whom you've lied to,
whom you've used,
who you didn't have time for,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

Without trust,
in anyone for anything,
though they have been sincere,
though they tried their best,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

Without hope,
that you've allowed to be shattered,
that you've allowed to fade away,
that you are afraid to believe,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

When you've closed all the doors,
filled your life with doubt,
allowed others to control you,
and find yourself without..

When you have convinced yourself,
there is no where to turn,
and you don't have the strength,
and don't care to learn,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

When there's been a terrible accident,
you're screaming, "please send prayers",
you've turned away all who cared,
suddenly you are in a panic,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

When a young parent dies,
and didn't have a will,
what happens to the kids,
will be decided by a stranger,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

When a real need comes along,
and your attorney is away,
or he's on vacation,
or he's since retired,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.

Each day when people leave home,
they always expect to return,
but we know that many don't,
see the half read books,
sitting on the table,
see the half written letter,
sitting on the desk,
see the half done ironing,
look at things as they were left,
and think how quick it ends.
 

People never need a drink,
until they thirst,
people never need a band-aid,
until they bleed,
people never need a doctor,
until they are sick,
people never need an attorney,
until they are in need,
which of these do you,
have at the ready?

Without a thought,
you are aimless,
without information,
you are uninformed,
without knowing,
you are assuming,
without believing,
you'll never know,
without trusting,
you're hurting yourself,
without,
you've come to the point of,
take what you can get.
