WHEN YOU SETTLE
 

When you settle,
for less than you're worth,
you are giving away,
much more than a day.

When you accept,
what one has to offer,
instead of what you are due,
the finger points square at you.

When you settle,
for less than you want,
and don't put up a fight,
inside, do you feel all is right?

If you don't demand the BEST for you,
if you don't demand the best FROM you,
and allow others to make you seem small,
who will be there to answer your call?

We are given a life to learn and grow,
we are given a life to enjoy and love,
when you allow a loser to steal years,
and you sit alone, with fears and tears.

For if you don't care enough to try,
don't expect any comfort when you cry,
for only you know the reason why,
you must DEMAND, not just sigh.

If we don't really believe our worth,
you will be shortchanged all your days.
if you don't stand up for your rights,
you'll know many, many sleepless nights.

If you settle for what they give,
and walk away and feel confused,
if they convinced you you were wrong,
then my friend, learn my song:

I know who I am and I know why,
I know why I am and reach for the sky,
I will reach the stars, for that is my right,
I will attain each goal in my sight..

I will settle for no less than the best,
I will keep on trying and will not rest,
I know I can do whatever I choose,
I have lived and I have paid my dues,
I will not stop short of the goal again,
For I know how close I have been,
I know my strength and know my rights,
I will get to where I have my sights.

For it is my life, it is up to ME,
I will choose whatever is to be,
I will stop only when I choose,
I will decide if I will win or lose,
It is my right to guide my own ship,
and I will decide when to alter my trip,
I won't settle for less than I am.
