I NEVER WANTED THIS TO BE
 

For love, you always tried,
though your needs were denied,
even when you were hurting inside,
through all the tears that you cried.

You always gave what you had,
at times you were treated so bad,
still, you're not angry or mad,
you're the best friend I've ever had.

You never took time out for you,
instead, it was always, "what more can I do"?,
you always saw everything through,
the best friend I ever knew.

Though life be short, you have but one,
all the the wrong you've been done,
you never stopped to have any fun,
there's not another under the sun.

All this you gave and nothing received,
all the times you were deceived,
yet, you did and still always believe,
so much energy spent, never retrieved.

Deep within your heart you know why,
as you've seen so many years slip by,
you never complain, you never cry,
you give your all, you always try.

The world will never know another,
a friend, a sister, a wife or a mother,
energy, desire, love and of nature,
the world will be different, for sure.

You just keep giving and never take,
there's not a part of you that is fake,
I love you always, asleep or awake,
there's not a single change I could make.

All about you is so real,
always hiding the pain you feel,
even when you get the worst of the deal,
you roll along, like a perfect wheel.

Not many know what you really are,
so small, so quiet, yet the real star,
with your drive you could have gone far,
your record is outstanding, not a blemish or a mar.

For life, you always tried,
from responsibility you never shied,
you see reality, eyes open wide,
for what it's cost you, I hurt inside.

I never wanted this to be,
I always wanted for it to be WE,
the future, of course, we couldn't see,
I wonder if you can honestly believe,
that I never wanted it to be this way.
