LIKE A FADING STAR

Once upon a time,
not so long ago,
a new friend was mine,
because you told me so.

We shared all of our dreams,
we laughed and had fun,
but, overnight it seems,
I am the hurting one.

I was always there for you,
helping however I could,
I did all I could do,
I thought you understood.

But, when the time came along,
to really show your trust,
you turned me off like a bad song,
was my belief in us, so unjust?

You don't talk to me any more,
never answer my mail,
you can't be honest like before,
where, or how did I fail?

Why did you lead me along,
pretending to be a friend,
when you felt so strong,
that it would soon end?

Is it because you were hurt before,
and just wanted to be sure,
but, baby, evening the score,
will never be a cure.

I wish you could be open, and tell me why,
you turned your back on me,
I know you're not as quiet and shy,
as you're pretending to be.

Is the mistrust because I am a man,
and you feel we are all no good,
if you'd tell me I'd understand,
I'm still here for you, as I said I would.

Do you hurt inside, when you read this,
and feel bad for letting me down,
do you wish you could give me a kiss,
do you wish I was coming to town?
